Deep in the Alentejo lies an Estate that worths a visit. Because there is wine tourism: because there are wine and good ones; because there is a hotel ready for your enjoy; because of the good weather; because there are studs and horse rides... For all that and much more but mostly because in Herdade da Malhadinha Nova, like we in Good Stuff, they share the love of sharing good experiences with others.
An abandoned land became in 1998 fields that give life to the high-quality Alentejo produce.
Because Alentejo has the perfect weather conditions, because the land is full of amazing schist based soils and because the wine varieties chosen, make this Estate with perfect conditions for producing wine with perfect conditions.
The vineyards as a total of 35 hectares were red and white wines are created. Among the grapes varieties, there is the Touriga Nacional, Tinta Miúda, Trincadeira and Aragonez for the red and Antão Vaz, Arinto, Roupeiro, and Chardonnay for the white.
The vinification process occurs naturally in a traditional way in mills. Because of the inclination of the terrain, the process occurs due to the force of gravity avoiding the use of pumps.
Then when the ageing part comes, French oak barrels are chosen. Francois Frère, Mercury, Nadaliè, Cadus, Damy, Tarausaund, Boutes, Seguin Moreau are the different cooperages.
Among the wines, we mention the Late harvest ( grapes manually picked up in November); the Malhadinha and the single variety ones. Sold in 25 countries, they have won many awards internationally.
A wine tasting is more than advised but also that you book beforehand.
If the wine is not enough to convince you, how about their olive oil from their olive grove that exists since the 40's? Or the Alentejo black pig and the Alentejana Cattle where they roam freely?
They also have a hotel, considered by many the best Country house in Portugal. There you can enjoy their packages of wine tastings, food tours and cooking class, romantic escapes and much more.
With less than 20 years, Herdade da Malhadinha Nova is already a mark in wine and tourism and good experiences in Portugal.
